About

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are thin custom-made shells that cover the front surface of your teeth to enhance their appearance, addressing issues like discolouration, chips, gaps, or misalignment. Made of porcelain or composite resin, veneers provide a durable and natural-looking solution, resulting in a transformed smile with minimal tooth preparation.

Why might I need

Dental Veneers

?

Dental veneers are designed to improve the appearance of your teeth by covering imperfections such as discolouration, chipped or worn edges, gaps, or misalignment. They provide a natural-looking, durable, and stain-resistant solution to enhance the shape, size, colour, and overall aesthetics of your smile.

Different approaches to

Dental Veneers

There are two main types of dental veneers available:

Composite veneers

Composite veneers are directly applied to your tooth and sculpted using tooth-coloured composite resin material. Composite veneers are completed in one or two visits, and are often a more affordable option that can still achieve significant smile enhancements. Composite veneers can be a more conservative option (requiring less shaving of tooth structure) and be repaired more easily.

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are custom-made, thin shells that are bonded to the teeth and provide a highly aesthetic and durable solution. These are usually made by a special dental ceramist and take some time to be hand crafted for you. These are generally stronger, more aesthetic and more stain resistant option available.

What is involved for

Dental Veneers

The process for porcelain veneers usually broken into three to four appointments:

Composite: usually broken into two to three appointments from start to finish:

1

Consultation and Examination for porcelain veneers:

Your dentist will check your oral health, chat with you about what you’re hoping to achieve, and decide if veneers are the right option. From there, they’ll come up with a plan based on things like how many veneers you need, how much prep your teeth might need, and the final look you want.

2

Tooth Preparation:

A thin layer of enamel is gently taken off the front of your teeth to make room for the veneers, and you might get a local anaesthetic to keep things comfortable. Then, your dentist will take a 3D scan or mold, plus some photos and your chosen shade, and send it to the ceramist who makes the veneers. Sometimes, you might even visit the ceramist to help get the perfect look. While your permanent veneers are being made, temporary ones might be put on to protect your teeth.

3

Cementing Veneers:

When your new veneers are ready, the temporary ones get taken off, and your dentist will check the custom porcelain veneers to make sure they look and fit just right. Then, they’ll bond them to your teeth using a special adhesive and make any tweaks needed to get the perfect fit, alignment, and bite.

4

Follow-up:

You might have a follow-up visit so your dentist can check how everything’s going and make sure you’re happy with your new veneers.

5

Consultation and Examination for composite bonding

Your dentist will assess your oral health, discuss your goals, and determine if composite veneers are suitable for you.

6

Tooth Preparation (Optional) and Bonding:

Sometimes, only a little tooth prep is needed, like removing a tiny bit of enamel or reshaping your teeth. Your dentist picks a shade that matches your natural teeth, then applies layers of tooth-coloured composite resin to the front of your teeth, sculpting it into the shape you want. Once it’s set, they’ll fine-tune the shape and polish the veneers to make them look smooth and natural. Finally, they’ll check your bite to make sure everything fits and works just right.

7

Follow-up:

You might have a follow-up visit to see how things are going and to fix any concerns. During this visit, your dentist may do a final polish to keep your veneers looking natural and shiny. Composite veneers can need some upkeep and might need replacing down the line, so your dentist will give you tips on how to care for them and keep them looking great for as long as possible.
