There are many studies which show links between severe gum disease (periodontitis) and heart disease (such as narrowed or block coronary arteries) and stroke. While the exact cause of these links is uncertain, data also shows improved home oral hygiene and increased professional cleaning may reduce the incidence of heart disease and stroke.
