Why does it hurt when I chew certain foods?

Pain while chewing can indicate that either the tooth has a cavity or crack, or that the gums or ligament around the tooth could be compromised or infected. Pain which occurs with hard or grainy foods usually indicates the presence of a cracked tooth, while pain when chewing any foods at all will indicate an issue with the gums or bone surrounding the tooth. We recommend you see your dentist to have the problem tooth properly assessed and treated.
