Using your Take Home Bleaching Trays
Here are a few helpful tips to follow to help achieve the best results throughout the use of your new custom bleaching trays:
- Ensure the trays are clean and dry prior to use.
- Brush and floss your teeth before inserting the trays; this will ensure that the bleaching gel will have the best possible contact with your teeth.
- Less is more! Place a small amount of gel (half a grain of rice) on the centre of the fitting surface of your tray. The gel should make contact with the surface of the tooth you see when you smile. We recommend placing the gel only on the front 8 to 10 teeth.
- Your teeth should be dry before inserting the tray. An excellent way to do this is to bite together, grin and inhale sharply through your closed teeth. Insert the upper andlower trays immediately after doing this. Lightly press the trays against your teeth.
- Any excess gel oozing out of the tray should be immediately wiped away with a tissue paper. Bleaching gel left in contact with your gums has the potential to leave a chemical burn (the gums will appear white). If this occurs, don’t panic! Your gums will return to their natural colour within a few days.
- After allowing your bleaching trays sufficient time to take effect (see instructions for the bleach provided), remove and rinse your trays and brush your teeth lightly.
- Avoid any dark liquids for the two hours immediately after using your bleaching tray (eg. coffee, tea, red wine, soft drinks).
Your initial bleaching treatment will usually take 10 to 14 days to take full effect. If you experience any sensitivity following your bleaching procedure, you may consider using your trays every otherday. Touch up bleaching will usually only require one to two days of use every 6 months.
