Immediate Denture Aftercare
Do not remove the denture for the first 24 hours after surgery, even if it feels loose or uncomfortable. The denture acts as a bandage and helps control bleeding and swelling. You may not be able to put it back on if the swelling gets too big.
After 24 hours, remove the denture 3-4 times a day and rinse your mouthgently with warm salt water to clean the surgical site and promote healing.
Avoid hot foods and drinks for thefirst few days to prevent burns, as your mouth may be numb.
Wear your denture as much as possible in the first few days, removing it only to clean your mouth and denture.
After the firstweek, remove the denture at night to allow your gums to restand promote oral health.
Clean your denture daily using a soft toothbrush and non-abrasive denture cleaner. Avoid regular toothpaste as it can scratch the denture.
When eating, start with softfoods and gradually introduce harder foods as your comfort and confidence increase. Chew slowly and use both sides of your mouth tokeep the pressure even on your denture.
Return to us for adjustments if the denture causes sore spots or doesn’t fit well. Your gums and bone will shrink over time, so the denture will need to be adjusted or replaced.
Regular dental check-ups are important to check the fit of your denture, examine your mouth for signs ofdisease, and provide professional cleaning.
