What to expect on your first visit

Thank you for trusting us and booking your first appointment! We are looking forward to meeting you and understand seeing and entrusting someone new to look after your oral health can be intimidating.

We hope the following information helps you understand what to expect a little better:

What will we do?

For your first appointment we will cover the following areas:

Meet & Greet
We want to get to know you. We want to hear about your aims and goals for your oral health and we want learn about your past dental history and experiences.

Examination
We'll go through a simple examination of your mouth to review the health of your teeth, gums and jaws.

Images
We'll take a number of photos and maybe even some x-rays to check beneath the surface. This helps us show you what we're noticing and track how your teeth change over time.

Consultation
We'll give you an accurate update on your oral health and highlight any issues to watch if relevant. If you're after treatment options we'll also explain what those are along with the pro's and con's of each option so you can make an informed decision.

Clean
We'll give your teeth and gums a professional clean and polish to help keep your mouth healthy and your smile beautiful.

How long will we spend?

We don't like to rush and we like to take the time to get to know our patients and do thorough good quality work. An initial consultation and clean will take approximately 60 minutes.

How much will it cost?

A standard initial consultation and routine clean will cost $265

If you have private health insurance, please bring your insurance card as we can claim any rebates for you on the spot.

If you require x-rays. These cost $45 per x-ray. Most patients require 2 x-rays every 2-3 years.

Emergency conditions are more complex and will be quoted prior to any treatment commencing. Initial emergency consultations are $60.

Locating the Building

After being in the same building for over 80 years, we've recently moved to a larger and more modern premises! We're located next to Glenferrie Hotel and Axil Coffee near the corner of Glenferrie Road and Burwood Road - look for the signs, we're on the ground floor right at the front.

How we Compare to other Dentists

Double the Training
The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) requires all dentists to complete a minimum number of hours annually to stay registered. At Dentists of Hawthorn we require all our dentists to at least double these minimum hours. This means when compared to other clinics our dentists grow exponentially better every year.

Tailored Solutions
Most dentists analyse your mouth and provide one solution that doesn't take in to consideration that patients need. We understand the best solution depends on the patient. Some people have time constraints, budget constraints or other illnesses which need to be taken in to consideration. We believe it's our role to educate and inform. We give the power back to you. We will always give you 2 or 3 treatment options tailored to your unique situation and help you understand the pros and cons of each option.

Locally Made
High grade local materials increase your safety and your treatments durability. It doesn't make us as much money but we don't risk your health with offshore labs like many other dentists.

Longer Appointments
For each appoint we allow more time than average to help and inform our patients without any extra charge. We believe valued and better informed patients leads to them experiencing less pain and cost over their lifetime.

Cancellations within 24 hours or non-attendance of appointments may be subject to a $50 cancellation fee
