What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a safe procedure which removes stains and discolouration which form on your teeth over time. These stains are commonly from consumption of darker foods and drinks (such as red wine, tea or coffee) or smoking. These stains can build up on your teeth over time and slowly decrease the brightness of your teeth. Fortunately, the safe use of teeth whitening products will remove these stains over a short amount of time, bringing you back to your original bright, white smile!

How long does Teeth Whitening last for?

The effect of teeth whitening will slowly decrease over time due to continued staining from food, drinks or smoking. You can continue to maintain the final white colour of the teeth through ongoing top up applications of the teeth whitening products. We generally find our patients will reapply their teeth whitening products every two to three months to keep stains at bay.

Will Teeth Whitening work for me?

Teeth whitening is effective for the majority of people, especially for those who have noticeable amounts of staining caused by food, drinks or smoking. We provide take home application trays for a safe and convenient way to brighten your teeth over a fortnight. However, if you have fillings, veneers or crowns on your front teeth, they will not change from their current colour and may leave your teeth looking multicoloured. We can help to resolve this by changing out your existing fillings, veneers or crowns to match the new, whiter colour.

Is Teeth Whitening Safe?

Teeth whitening is a safe procedure when performed with the provided products and professionally made application trays. The products we supply are approved for use by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. We do not recommend the use of whitening materials purchased online or outlets other than your dentist as they are potentially unsafe and cause serious harm.

Some individuals will find that their teeth will become more sensitive than usual for a few days following the use of whitening products. This is a common side effect of the use of whitening products, and we recommend that you reduce the frequency of whitening to help reduce this. If used incorrectly, the whitening materials can cause burns on gums, or discomfort from whitening materials spreading into dental cavities.
